I. GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR ALL AUTHORS

1. Call for Papers

You can submit paper(s) before 4th October 2010 (Paris local time). You can choose to submit one or several different papers in the following:

2. Author’s account registration

You need to create an account* before starting the submission process.
Please keep carefully your login and password! You will need it at each connection, and in particular to consult the online results.

*N.B: your cell phone number will be requested upon submission and used only for urgent submission – or publishing – related matters. This confidential information will not be disclosed.

 

3. Themes

Your paper has to be written with regards to your scientific work in one of the listed themes.

4. Keywords

After selecting one of the 38 themes previously mentioned, you have to pick 3 keywords from a list in order to help us build sessions with homogeneous content.

5. Double paper

In case of double paper (i.e. same paper submitted in several theme categories or in the 3 submission categories), please be aware that it will automatically be deleted by the administrator. Please make sure to submit your paper in only one theme category (among the 38 themes) and in only one submission stream (among Call for Paper refereed on long text, Call for Paper refereed on abstract and Poster).

6. Page layout

- Your paper must be submitted in ENGLISH or FRENCH, the two official languages of the ICA.
- The 1st name in the authors’ list must be the MAIN author.
- Your paper must be an original and previously unpublished work.
- The paper must respect the following framework:

  • BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES
  • APPROACH & METHODS
  • RESULTS
  • CONCLUSION AND FUTURE PLANS

- Pictures, equations and figures can be included in your text and must be saved in image format (.jpg or .png).
- Tables can also be included in your text and must be either saved in image format (.jpg or .png) or created directly with the toolbar of the submission website.

In order to avoid problems of incompatibility, we ask you to prepare your text with the Times New Roman font, size 12.
Title and author’s names will have to be typed out in separated fields.
Then, you will have to copy and paste the text (without the title and the list of authors) in the indicated field.

To copy and paste from Microsoft Word, please only use the button (from the toolbar of the submission website). Please make sure to check before submitting that your browser allows windows pop-up for this site.

7. Modification

You will have 24 hours to modify your paper.
After this time, we kindly ask you to send an e-mail to: sbelbachir@europa-organisation.com

8. Registration

There is no special or discounted registration fees for papers presenters.
CAUTION: Papers from authors (or presenters) not registered will be excluded from the programme and unpublished. The authors (or presenters) registration deadline is on 1st March 2011.

9. Browser

You must accept cookies and javascript controls to use online submission system.
We recommend you to use Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.6+ in order to take full advantages of the system.

II. SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR PAPERS REFEREED ON LONG TEXT

1. Characters

Your paper (without the title and the list of authors) must contain at least 3000 characters and must not exceed 25000 characters, spaces not included.

2. Selection process

The Papers refereed on long text will be blind reviewed by an international Scientific Committee composed of the ICA chairs and selected experts in the fields of GIS and Cartography.

3. Acceptance/refusal of paper

Information will be sent only to the e‐mail address used for the account creation. Results will be available by December 2010. You will be able to consult them directly on the online submission system with login and password used for submission.

Results will appear under 4 different types:

  1. Your paper has been accepted as a Paper refereed on long text, some corrections might be requested by the Scientific Committee (to be sent before 15th February 2011),
  2. Your paper has been accepted as a Paper refereed on abstract, some corrections might be requested by the Scientific Committee (to be sent before 15th February 2011),
  3. Your paper has been accepted as a Poster, you will have to follow the instructions for poster presentation (to be sent before 15th February 2011),
  4. Your paper has been rejected.

Full information on the 2nd submission and guidelines will be released at the time of the notification.

4. Publication

The selected Papers refereed on long text will be published either in the ICA approved journals (Cartographica, CAGIS and the Cartographic Journal) or in the 1st volume of a new book series “Advances in Cartography and GIScience” (to be published by Springer).

 

III. SPECIFIC GUIDELINES FOR PAPERS REFEREED ON ABSTRACT AND POSTER

1. Characters

Your abstract (without the title and the list of authors) must contain at least 2000 characters and must not exceed 3000 characters, spaces not included.

2. Selection process

The Papers refereed on abstract and the Posters will be reviewed by an international Scientific Committee composed of the ICA chairs and a French Scientific Committee.

3. Acceptance/refusal of paper

Information will be sent only to the e‐mail address used for the account creation. Results will be available by December 2010. You will be able to consult them directly on the online submission system with login and password used for submission.

  1. A. Submission for a Paper refereed on abstract
    1. Your abstract has been accepted as a Paper refereed on abstract, you will have to send a long paper (before 15th February 2011),
    2. Your abstract has been accepted as a Poster, you will have to follow the instructions for poster presentation (to submit before 15th February 2011),
    3. Your abstract has been rejected.
  2. Submission for a Poster
    1. Your abstract has been accepted as a Poster, some corrections might be requested by the Scientific Committee (to be sent before 15th February 2011),
    2. Your abstract has been rejected.

Full information on the 2nd submission and guidelines will be released at the time of the notification.

4. Publication

The Papers refereed on abstract and the Posters will be published in the Proceedings in digital format.
